Homes in Bangor, and what that means for your bathroom
- A Victorian seaside resort after the railway arrived in 1865; many houses overlooking the bay are Victorian.
- Grew fast as a Belfast commuter town, from about 14,000 people in 1930 to 40,000 by 1971.
Older terraces and town houses often have uneven walls and floors, lath-and-plaster ceilings and old wiring. Expect more making good than in a newer house, and keep the 10% contingency for what turns up behind the old units and tiles.
Post-war houses usually have solid concrete ground floors and simple layouts, which suits new flooring, but wiring and pipework may be original and worth replacing while the room is stripped.
