Homes in Coleraine, and what that means for your bathroom
- A 17th-century Plantation town with older houses around the centre.
- Grew a lot after the war, with estates such as Ballysally and The Heights; the university also brings plenty of rented housing.
Older terraces and town houses often have uneven walls and floors, lath-and-plaster ceilings and old wiring. Expect more making good than in a newer house, and keep the 10% contingency for what turns up behind the old units and tiles.
Post-war houses usually have solid concrete ground floors and simple layouts, which suits new flooring, but wiring and pipework may be original and worth replacing while the room is stripped.
Building control in Coleraine
Replacing a bathroom like-for-like doesn't usually need approval. You will need it to add a toilet or bathroom where there wasn't one, to alter drainage, to make structural changes, or to install or replace a boiler.
Coleraine is covered by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council. Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council building control.
